En la humanidad se han visto todo tipos de Autores que todos leemos en los libros de historia. Muchos de esos genios como Guttemberg, creador de la imprenta, J. Watt, de la máquina de vapor, Michael Jackson, excentrico artista del pop que más discos ha vendido hasta la presente, Miguel de Cervantes, escritor de "El Quijote" la obra más leída tras la biblia, Mario Vargas Llosa, reciente premio Nobel.
Lamentablemente, la historia también refleja situaciones algo tristes cuando ha habido autores que han sido suplantados por otros. El más sangrante es el del famoso aventurero y marinero D. Cristobal Colón, todo el mundo sabe que la tierra que descubrio fué Colombia y un plagiador suplanto esa autoria con América. Hace pocas fechas se descubrio que la Luz no fué descubierta por Edison.
Existen algunos casos algo excesivos como puede ser el artista Prince, que tuvo que seguir trabajando con la denominación "El artista anteriormente conocido como Prince" ya que la compañía para la que trabajaba tenía los Derechos de Autor. El caso del artista y dibujante Manuel Vazquez se ha llevado al septimo arte, el cine, donde se refleja que estuvo 20 años sin poder publicar nada de los personajes que él mismo creo y le hicieron famoso.
El Plagio asesina la voluntad de comunicar determinadas cosas a autores, especialmente en sectores de investigación dada la ausencia de ética moral y profesional por muy diversas razones.
La descarga indiscriminada de todo tipo de obras de autores está generando un problema en muchos sectores laborales que en muchos casos ha supuesto cerrar una parte de esos sectores y el paro consecuente al desaparecer el comprador ya que la descarga en internet le elimina su potencial cliente. Recientemente se ha puesto de manifiesto en los noticiarios que el ataque llega hasta las obras de autores ya escritas, bien puede ser mediante traducciones o simples cambios de portada con otro autor.
